PROTECT YOUR INVENTORY

Backup is a workflow, not a button.

Choose a destination outside the application, automate where possible and test that you can actually restore.

Practical guideV0.4.41
Three independent backup destinations
01

Choose a backup destination

Local or synchronized folder

Suitable for a mounted NAS folder or locally available Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud or rclone folder. Docker must be able to see the folder first.

WebDAV

A direct HTTPS collection, for example Nextcloud or ownCloud. Configure its address and credentials under Backup/Connections.

S3-compatible storage

Object storage for automated off-site retention. Use a separate account or restricted key for this backup destination.

A good backup routine

  • Create a current backup before every update.
  • Keep at least one copy on another device or service.
  • Use retention so one mistake does not replace every good copy.
  • Optionally protect exports with AES-256-GCM and store the key separately.
  • Investigate warnings when the latest successful backup is older than eight days.
03

Restore safely

Open Data and choose Import backup. Parts Inventory validates the file before mutation, creates a safety snapshot, restores transactionally and checks database integrity. An encrypted export requires the exact original key or password. Existing browser sessions are revoked after a successful restore.
